Surface Preparation - Priming, Cleaning and Blast Profiling

Surface Preparation - Shotblasting

Our surface preparation services complement our range of surface finishing and coating services. For components which have already been in operation and are in to be recoated, we remove heavy scale, corrosion and old coatings by shotblasting, using either aluminium oxide, or angular steel grit.

On newly machined components, blasting is done to provide a key for the adhesion of the surface coating. As always, we follow the process identified in the specifications demanded by our customers - these include the blast profile required, which is normally to a Swedish Standard 2.5 (SA2.5), and the type of blast medium to use.

Blast Profiling / Aluminium Oxide Blasting / Chilled Iron Grit Blasting

We have dedicated blast cabinets at our Kelmscott, Perth coating facility. Shot blasting using expendable medium is usually reserved for outsize components, and is done within a special environment which would be constructed specifically for the job. It is unusual for us to do this because our blasting cabinets are large enough to accommodate the majority of surface preparation tasks we are commissioned to do.

Our experienced personnel will prepare the surface of your component to the standard you require, the job will then be inspected, and only then will the component move through to our other stations to be coated.

Chemical Etching as Pre-treatment

Your specification may call for us to prepare the surface of your components using chemical etching (or chemical milling as it can be referred). Wet chemical etching is carried out at our plant.
